What is a mini-reunion?

A gathering of anywhere from a few alums having lunch to several dozen enjoying themselves over a period of several days. In other words, a mini is more than one person dining alone and less than a class reunion.

What is a simple way to do a mini?

Set up a group potluck or a lunch at a restaurant.

What if we want even more time together?

Hotels are the best option. No one person is burdened with hosting the event. One important thing is the choice of the hotel. It should be accessible from airports and highways with fairly reasonable prices and also offer ways for people to share rooms easily with pullout couches. The hotel also should have a meeting room with food available at the hotel or nearby. Easy parking is a plus. Also consider conference centers, retreats or even camps just before or after the camping season.

Why do a mini?

  • Because it’s fun and easy. All of us know how to make a restaurant reservation.
  • Because even if you know nobody when you walk in, you will know and enjoy several people before it’s over.
  • Because the research says that warm social contacts are an important part of aging well.
