Website Technical Notes

Playing music: This site's audio files are .mp3 format which is supported by a wide range of music players - Windows Media Player, Winamp, iTunes and QuickTime, to name a few.  When you ask your browser to play music, it probably will start a player application which displays a separate player window on your screen. You can drag the player window smaller and/or drag out of the way if you wish to continue browsing different site pages, or even do work in an entirely different application while listening.  The player window has buttons to stop, pause/continue, etc. and is the way you control play after the very first click to start.

Audio on this site is set to download the music from the server to your computer if it has not been previously downloaded.  This mode has been used for a long time and is familiar to most users.  The download does mean a delay before you start to hear music, but with fast internet access and clips of a few minutes, the delay is not long.  A dialup connection will be a longer delay.  A previously downloaded clip will start playing right away.  Purging browser cached or temporary files will delete downloaded music, so it must be reloaded next time you play.

Our aim is for audio play on this site to work in the same familiar way you already have set up on your computer.
